Women’s lacrosse dominates Whitney 15-2

Davis High’s varsity women’s lacrosse team crushed Whitney High with a 15-2 win on March 10.

The Blue Devils quickly took control of the game. Within the first two minutes, sophomore Mia Pannier scored the first goal, putting Davis on the scoreboard early.

By the end of the first quarter, the Blue Devils had built a 4-0 lead.

Right after the quarter break, Davis went on a scoring run, adding eight more goals. Senior Olivia Ayson scored two of those goals while also helping shut down Whitney’s offensive opportunities.

In the third quarter, Davis slowed slightly while trying to add to its lead, and Whitney managed to score its first goal of the game, bringing the score to 11-1.

The fourth quarter moved quickly, with the Blue Devils controlling possession for most of the time. Whitney broke through the Davis defense only once more, and the game ended with a decisive 15-2 Davis victory.

Head Coach Nila Ayson said the team played well by “keeping it smooth and not trying to rush things.”

“Overall, it was a really good game,” Nila Ayson said. “Everybody showed really good discipline and good offense.”

Olivia Ayson agreed, saying the team executed its strategy effectively. “We were able to establish our plays and make strong passes,” she said.

Oliva Ayson also noted that the team is adjusting after losing many players to graduation last season. “We have a whole new team since 12 players graduated last year,” she said. “I think we’ve really been building a standard and playing at a high level.”

Looking ahead, she hopes the team can continue improving as the season progresses.

“(We will) just keep working on our speed, catching and crisp passes,” she said.
