The Davis High varsity women’s lacrosse team battled Del Oro High in a tough game, falling 13-1 on March 12.

In the first quarter, Del Oro took an early lead in the game. Maintaining an aggressive offense and fast passes, Del Oro scored ten goals.

Davis High’s defense quickly adjusted to Del Oro’s pressure. Within a couple minutes of the second quarter, senior Delaney Holland secured possession of the ball to hustle up the field.

Despite the Blue Devils’ efforts, they were blocked from cutting through Del Oro’s defense. By the end of the quarter, Del Oro advanced through Davis’ defense to score a goal.

After a halftime break, the Blue Devils were invigorated with spirit for the remainder of the game. Junior Imogen Barsotti began the third quarter sprinting past Del Oro to score a goal for Davis, putting the score at 11-1.

Senior Olivia Ayson won the face off to lead the fourth quarter with strong offense. In the last few minutes of the game, Del Oro scored twice more, ending with a 13-1 loss for Davis.

“In the second half, they really adjusted to the pressure and they started working more as a team,” head coach Nilo Ayson said. “We just need to play our game and put this game behind us and continue on.”

Senior Sonia Clayton agrees the team improved after a hiccup in the first quarter. “Even though the game started off a little rocky, I thought that everyone came together and we finished out the last three quarters really well,” Clayton said.
