Davis battles hard, falls to Del Oro 3-0

The Davis High men’s varsity volleyball team fell to Del Oro 3-0 on April 13.

Coming into the match, Del Oro sat sixth in league play with a 4-6 record, while Davis entered eighth seeking their first win in the Sierra Foothill League.

The Blue Devils started strong, bringing energy from the opening serve. The Davis bench remained active throughout the match, with constant energy and support as the team battled for every point.

“I thought we played really well,” senior Ryan Buzbee said. “But when it came down to the last points, we just kind of let it slip.”

The first set was highly competitive, with both teams trading points and neither side gaining separation. Davis fought off multiple set points and kept it even late before Del Oro edged out a 29–27 win.

Senior Mohammad Reggad made a strong impact at the net, contributing key blocks and effort plays throughout the match as Davis continued to compete.

Del Oro built momentum in the second set, but Davis responded to multiple runs and kept it close before falling 25–22 to go down two sets.

“Our energy was there, and we played really well overall,” Reggad said.

The third set followed a similar pattern, with Davis taking an early lead and continuing to fight. However, Del Oro closed the set on a late run, securing a 25–21 win to complete the sweep.

“I think my boys did a great job tonight. They worked like hell, and I think everyone in the gym could see that,” head coach Isaac Rivera said.

Davis will look to respond against Oak Ridge on April 15.
