Davis men’s tennis sweeps Folsom 9-0

The varsity men’s tennis team defeated Folsom High 9-0, winning every match in straight sets and strengthening its hold on second place in the league. 

Davis set the tone early, opening with a point by forfeit after Folsom was short players. Within the first 30 minutes, four Blue Devils had already won their first sets, while teammates continued to cheer each other on from court to court. 

The Blue Devils stayed in control throughout the match, winning all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Sophomore George Vougioukas won his singles match, focusing on attacking his opponent early. 

“I did a good job of taking advantage of my opponent’s weaker second serve and I did a good job of coming up to the net and finishing the point early,” Vougioukas said. 

Sophomore Andrew Vida also stood out in his singles match after being added to the lineup, using consistent serving to keep momentum on his side. 

“I held serve all my games and five aces and only one double at fault,” Vida said. 

Head coach Dale Hersch said the team remained disciplined despite facing a weaker opponent. 

“A lot of times they know they’re going to win, but it’s how they go about doing it, and they stay focused,” Hersch said. 

With the win, Davis improved to 8-3 in league play and moved closer to securing the No. 2 seed for the playoffs. 

“The focus is to keep playing, but peak at the right time, and I think we’re doing that,” Hersch said.
